Feature: Artists collective calls to kick The Queers out of Ottawa

The Queers

When irreverent humor and the desire to make the world a safer space collide, things can get a little volatile. Babely Shades, an artists’ collective in Ottawa, began an online petition to cancel The Queers’ scheduled show on Feb. 21. The collective, which has about 50 members, provides a supportive environment and collective voice for artists of color and marginalized genders. The collective cites the band’s name, The Queers, as a source of offense along with frontman Joe King’s recent public support of Darren …

The Queers

*  featured image by Dawn Wilson (Wilson Photoworks) What better way to celebrate the season turning to Winter than putting out a contest to attend a pop punk show for FREE in Colorado? The absolute chance of a lifetime show will be with The Queers, The Lillingtons, Mr. T Experience and PEARS at the Gothic Theatre. A lineup you would think you could only see on a flyer on your friends wall from the “I went to that show in the 90’s” area of their …

Punk Love: A ‘Dumb Little Band,’ A Ticket to California and a Dumb Little Plan

MTX

I was initially unsure where I’d put this article because it’s not really the “Punk Love” format but then I soon realized it’s actually everything this column is about. Let’s face it, I’ve only written one so I guess the best thing to do is take this wherever I want it to go. This time being an opportunity to fly by the seat of my pants, be a bit impulsive and not live in regret. What I’m about to embark on is …

Gallery + Review: 88 Fingers Louie, Two Nights in Chicago at Reggie’s

88 Fingers Louie

In December 2013, 88 Fingers Louie played their 20 year anniversary show in Chicago.  There was chatter that they were back together, at least in some form.  More recently, they announced a two night double headliner at Reggie’s in downtown Chicago.  The shows were marketed under the name “The Dom Show”.  The set lists would include only songs from 1993-1995, the years which original drummer Dom Vallone was in the band. Considering that I favorite the early years of almost any band (especially …

Review + Gallery: Screeching Weasel, The Dwarves, The Queers and Potato Pirates in Denver

Gothic Theatre

Pirates and Dwarves and Queers and Weasels oh my! It was quite the lineup of bands, helmed by the likes of notorious punk front men Joe Queer, Blag Dahlia and Ben Weasel. Over the years each has defiantly proclaimed their bands as the “best in the world” and each has offended the masses on more than one occasion. Simply having them in one building together was potentially catastrophic. It was the kind of sold out show that guaranteed bruises, beer …

The Mr. T Experience are BACK, announce three tour dates

MTX

Okay, before you get too overly excited, the title is a bit misleading. For one, Mr. T Experience never really called it quits officially. Also, they’ve announced a few shows in California and there might, or might not be more. I suppose I got a bit ahead of myself and the title was just my first reaction as a fan. For those who just want the real details, you should probably just skip the next paragraph (or two) because they will …
