VICTIM CULTURE

Review: Victim Culture – S/T

Victim Culture – S/T

Fort Collins, Colorado.  Does that city’s name conjure up any images for you? Any? At all?  Yeah, me either, until now………

Victim Culture is a rad new band hailing from this little unassuming city nestled in the rocky mountains, and with their debut release they are offering up an exciting vision of where hardcore punk is going.  From the opening track OMDB , the scene is set for the next 23 minutes and it is chock full of what you dig most about the genre and more.  A pummeling rhythmic assault on your senses, wailing guitars and in your face lyrics are all represented here. Yet this is far from your average hardcore album.  As aggressive as it is, it is also equally smart. Think really angry math rock here.  Complex chord structure, rhythm shifts and lyric movement add a depth to this release that a lot of the genre misses out on. The instrumentation is less straight forward, making it way more interesting than the simple chugging breakdowns that became the norm.

Some of this eight track offering’s highlights include the raging Suit Up, The Void, and their first single/video offer Hostile.  This is definitely a band worth checking out if you’re into a much heavier,  smarter version of a genre you thought you knew. I highly recommend giving it a listen if you are into bands like NoMeansNo, Jawbox, Minutemen, or From Autumn to Ashes.  You can hear hints of all these in a band that sounds only like themselves.

Victim Culture released their self titled album digitally on FtLP Records April 21st, 2017. So click those links below, show some love and help this new band get rolling out of Colorado and in front of you and your friends at your favorite venue.
