Over Time

Review: Over Time – ‘Chances’

It’s about time a promising hardcore band hit the Denver scene and Over Time is about to hit it hard with their thrashing debut EP, Chances. Featuring staple members of the punk scene, Over Time is a band comprised of some of the most talented and kind dudes you will ever meet. Each of them brings something unique to the table that contributes to a full and epic hardcore sound. There aren’t many bands like this in the market right now and you don’t want to miss these guys.

Both guitarists of Over Time have been playing in ska-core bands for over a decade and this new band is a clear phase of growth for them as they explore more challenging and technical melodies. The guitars on Chances are intricate, harmonious, and brutal. Their melody carries the EP from start to finish and keeps you guessing the entire time.

Over the guitar lines are the vocals that come from a familiar voice in the Denver scene unlike any other. It is extremely refreshing to hear the raw and passionate vocals of Ben Kellogg once again. All the way back to the days of Handcannon and Anchor Point, this guy knows how to captivate an audience with his voice. All four songs of the EP exude Ben’s vocal talent and it’s certainly a pleasure hearing it grace our music scene again.

Every song on Chances is polished and in the pocket. For a debut EP, this is not one that you want to sleep on. The tracks are diverse and far from “cookie-cutter” for a hardcore band. There are badass breakdowns, thrash drum beats, and intellectually stimulating lyrics that are going to put Over Time on the map.

Be sure to check out their EP Release show on June 23rd at Seventh Circle Music Collective with Potato Pirates, Allout Helter, The New Narrative, and Mean Machine.
