For the Love of Punk Night at Streets of London Pub took a different path this Saturday June 10 by featuring a NoMeansNo cover band and a tribute band to NoMeansNo’s Ramonescore punk band The Hanson Brothers. Denver’s own Joy Subtraction took on the challenge of learning a set’s worth of tunes which singer Abe Brennan has referred to as “their (NoMeansNo) more straightforward songs” which is to say still instrumentally complicated and wordy and calling the whole debacle Mr. Happy. Long running Hanson Brothers tribute band Third Man In (members of Teenage Bottlerocket, Redbush and Stat Dad) from Laramie, WY came down to party and sing about hockey in full character down to Shellnut’s (Tommy Hanson) almost constant thread of drool. There was an impressive amount of singing along from the crowd to both bands and ended with Brennan soloing the Canadian national anthem.
