In celebration of the 10th anniversary of their album Get Better, Lemuria set off on a national tour with Cayetana and Mikey Erg. I’d been waiting for this awesome tour to make it to Denver, and thankfully the weather cooperated – heck, it was even a nice day!
One of the best things, in my opinion, about when musicians come to town is when they get to do a Ratio session at Ratio Beerworks, easily my favorite brewery in Denver. Lemuria played a 4 song set at Ratio before the main event at The Marquis Theater later that night. It’s always a fun experience to have these sessions at Ratio, and it was my first time seeing Alex Kerns, Lemuria’s drummer, behind a guitar!
Mikey Erg opened up the show, and played an array of songs. There were definitely a lot of sing alongs happening during his set, and it was a great time getting to see him run around and play.
Cayetana took the middle slot at the show. I happen to be a huge Cayetana fan, so I certainly enjoyed standing up front and singing along. They played a couple of new jams off their record, due out this year, as well as a great mix of classics off of their first full length, as well as “Freedom 1313” off of their 7” that was released at the beginning 2016 – my absolute favorite song released last year. The stage presence Cayetana has, and the amount they’ve grown since the first time I saw them a few years ago when they were opening for Pup and The Menzingers is pretty amazing, and I am so excited that they were on this tour so many more people can be exposed to their great music.
Finally was Lemuria! In celebrating Get Better’s 10th anniversary, they played the entire album, then a few other songs, including very old ones (Bookworm!) as well as a new tune and a cover. They had their friend Tony join them on stage, and he added a mixture of instruments: keys, additional guitar, and tambourine! Lemuria was one of the first bands I took photos of, so aside from the fact that I am deeply attached to their music, they hold an extra special place in my heart because of that! I love how evident it is that they enjoy playing to their fans, who passionately sing along to every song.
I know the year has just begun, but I can definitely say I think that this will go down as one of my favorite shows in 2017. A great combination of bands, and a night spent with great friends.
