Review + Gallery: Fest 15 In Gainesville

Mac Sabbath

Friday morning, we woke up groggy and hung over. We successfully partied and did the things we wanted to do for two days. The newly dubbed “Chicken Who Crew” gathered up our belongings and hopped in the rent a car bound for another three days of debauchery in a new city. The Slackers

Long-running New York rock steady/ska/ reggae/jazz legends THE SLACKERS brought their Fall 2016 tour through Chicago, Illinois’s 1st Ward at Chop Shop last month, bringing along Gainesville skameisters Duppies, Indianapolis’s smooth rocking Circle City Deacons and local ska punkers Run and Punch to round out the long 4-ska-band bill. Working through almost two hours of classics, Vic and company kept the crowd moving nonstop as they crooned and tooted. English Two-Tone legends The Specials brought their signature mix of punk attitude and dancehall rhythms to the Concord Music Hall in Chicago, Illinois for a special sold-out Riot Fest pre-show Thursday September 16th, a day before their anticipated Riot Fest performance. Supported by Brooklyn reggae group The Far East, The Specials danced their way through a veritable greatest hits collection, from “A Message to You, Rudy” to the all-time classic “Little Bitch,” much to the delight of the fedora clad and 3-piece-suited audience. Put on …

Review + Gallery: Lost Love, The Howl and Bottle Kids in Chicago

Lost Love

In the dog days of summer, on a sweaty, sweltering Chicago Thursday night, Quencher’s Saloon seemed like a decent enough place to hang out. I’ve written before about their infamous “Chicago Handshake” drink combo. The less we talk about that the better. I didn’t want to leave my apartment, especially when my bud Vito at MP Shows put together a stupid-hot short three band line up. I feared I may just burst into flames when I stepped in the door. …
